Joćo Gilberto CDs

Joćo (I Really Samba)

Joao Gilberto, the brilliant singer, guitarist and "pope" of bossa nova. He invented bossa nova's distinctive guitar style and contributed remarkably sophisticated yet subdued vocals to his interpretations. While Antonio Carlos Jobim contributed most of the harmonic and melodic innovations of bossa nova, Joćo Gilberto (from Juazeiro, Bahia) introduced the characteristic bossa "beat" on guitar and its distinctive singing style. His 1958 single "Chega De Saudade" and 1959 album of the same name launched the movement that swept the world. See Also: Bossa Nova: A Brief Look.
