Helio Delmiro A famous sideman (Elis Regina, Dóris Monteiro,
Tamba Trio, and so many more, even US artistas the great Sara Vaughn and Michael
Franks), Hélio Delmiro demonstrates his imagination
and incredibly personal phrasing in his solos,
giving time-worn standards
here given new vitality and freshness from his incredible lines, as Thelonius
Monk's "Epistrophy" and the classic Strayhorn, "Body and Soul". "body.." is no
easy composition to reinvent melody from, but this rendition a thing of beauty!
His own compositions are in the modal jazz tradition, with even a hint of Chick
Corea type composition ("Pro Zeca"), and the too brief opening interlude
"Marceneiro Paulo", (which if I remember, is dedicated to his papa) is a lovely
composition on solo violão, picked in that tradition that is unique as
Brasilian! Breathtaking! The backing quartet also features another legend, Jota
Morães on vibrafone and piano, a first rate improviser
also. --an Amazon reviewer
